In November 2002, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certified the National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory (NVFEL) as their first lab for testing hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The agency also certified the 2003 Honda FCX as the first fuel cell vehicle. The tests were limited to fuel economy issues only as the vehicle is said to be emission free.
